The Vale Consort, a vibrant new professional ensemble based in Wales and devoted to the rich sounds of Medieval and Renaissance music, will be our resident group for 2026, bringing fresh energy and artistry to our musical landscape.​

Our mission is to champion and celebrate early music in Wales — and this exciting new group of young, passionate musicians perfectly embodies that spirit.

Scott Baker - lute

​Scott Baker studied music at RWCMD, graduating with an MMus in 2003. Since then, alongside a career in education, he has performed regularly with ensembles, bands, duos, as a soloist and in theatre. Recent years have been busy; playing for a production of 'Shakespeare in Love', putting a Lieder program together, performing twice at the 'Early Voices Festival', and gigging with folk band Allan yn y fan. Looking forward to this exiting new venture with The Vale Consort"

William Cox - countertenor

​

William Cox is an Australian-born British composer and countertenor studying at the RWCMD. His orchestral work, “It Rests Untarnished" (premiered by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales) was awarded The Paul Mealor Award by the Welsh Music Guild. As a film and theatre composer his work has been described as “incredibly clear” and “excellently crafted” (Broadway Baby). William is also composer-in-residence for the vocal octet Contrepoint, Assistant Director of Music at the Cardiff Oratory, and co-founder and artistic director of Welsh vocal ensemble, Cantorion Tomkins.

Robert Cavaye - bass viol

​Robert is a violinist and gambist who graduated from the RWCMD in 2023, where he studied with Lucy Gould and was kindly supported by a RWCMD scholarship. He is a committed chamber musician and ensemble player covering a wide range of periods and styles and has played with the Arculo consort, Ensemble Ordnario, Welsh Baroque Orchestra, and the Petrichor piano trio, along with the usual smattering of temporary freelance groups.

Anna Cristoni-Apel - conductor

 

Anna, born in Bologna, studied singing and choral conducting in Milan, specialising in Gregorian Chant. She founded Ensemble Weltgesang in 1993, performing widely across Europe and for RAI. After teaching in Germany and England, she settled in South Wales, where she founded The Fountain Singers in 2015. Anna now focuses on promoting and performing early music with various groups in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, and directs Early Voices, the new Early Music Festival in Llantwit Major.

​Kizzy Lumley-Edwards - soprano 

 

Kizzy Lumley-Edwards is a recent graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Their singing journey started in the National Youth Choir, an organisation they have been part of for a decade. Most recently with National Youth Voices, Kizzy did a prom with the BBC Singers conducted by Joe Hisaishi. They were in the 12th cohort of Genesis Sixteen and the 1st cohort of Voces8’s Future Talent scheme, working with Voces8 again as a scholar.

Alice Martin - soprano

Alice Martin is a Classical Soprano, currently studying her Masters in Vocal Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She performs regularly as a concert soloist, and in May she won the Royal Welsh College John Ireland competition. Alice was a young artist in The Sixteen’s ‘Genesis 16’ programme 23-24, and recent choral highlights include concerts with the London Handel Festival Singers, the BBC Singers, and the BBC Proms with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

Jonathan Reynolds - bass

​

Jonathan is an Irish baritone currently studying a Masters in Music at RWCMD.
He has made professional operatic debuts at Buxton International Festival and
the National Eisteddfod, and was the Baritone Solo winner of the Feis Ceoil,
2023. Jonathan frequently works as a choral singer, notably with Chamber
Choir Ireland, Sestina, and the acclaimed vocal ensemble, ANÚNA. He enjoys
a portfolio music career, working also as an accompanist, musical director, and vocal coach.

Logan Clark - soprano

Logan Clark is a soprano from Phoenix, Arizona. In 2023, she left behind a career in national security to pursue a Master of Music from RWCMD, where she studied with James Gilchrist. In 2025, Logan was awarded The Elias Prize for Voice for her performance as The Angel in an English-language premiere of Handel's "The Resurrection" (La Resurrezione). She appears around Wales as a soloist, and is also a chorister with the BBC National Chorus of Wales. Her two cats remain unimpressed.

Sarah Dunbar - soprano

Sarah is a Cardiff based soprano who completed her MA under Dennis O’Neill at WIAV. Before this she completed a Vocal Performance postgraduate at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Sarah has performed in many prestigious works throughout her career including Longborough Festival Opera’s Der Fliegende Holländer and Brahms Requiem in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford Upon Avon.

Lucas Maunder - bass

Lucas is a Cardiff-based baritone from Winchester, currently studying for a Masters in Music at RWCMD. Recent highlights include Vaughan Williams’ 5 Mystical Songs (Weston Chorale) and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle (Chepstow Choral Society). Along his work as a soloist Lucas is a keen choral singer, singing with the Gloucester Cathedral Choir and as a Choral Scholar at St Martins in Roath in Cardiff. Outside of liturgical singing Lucas also performs with the Hampshire based choir Esprimo.

Laurie Standish-Hayes - tenor

Laurie Standish Hayes is a British/Irish tenor from Malvern, Worcestershire. He graduated with a master's in vocal studies from RWCMD in 2025 and is currently a freelance classical tenor working in South Wales. His most recent appearances include the opening concert of the Brecon Baroque Festival and as a soloist in Beethoven's 9th Choral Symphony at Llandaff Cathedral.
